The Zambia Metrology Agency (ZMA) has commenced the second phase of its nationwide verification exercise for the petroleum sector to ensure the accuracy of all measuring instruments.

This bi-annual exercise, starting this month, aims to maintain precision in the petroleum sector.

Michael Nsefu, ZMA Director of Legal Metrology, highlighted the critical importance of accuracy in measurements for ensuring product durability and reliability.

“Accuracy in the petroleum sector is vital for the durability of products,” Nsefu said in a statement issued on Friday by ZMA Senior Public Relations Officer Sandra Mwila.

He said: “Our engineers will be deployed across the country to ensure every instrument used for dispensing fuel meets the highest standards of accuracy.”

Nsefu emphasized that accurate measurements were essential not only in the petroleum sector but also in mining, manufacturing, construction, and energy.

ZMA’s collaborative efforts with companies and oil marketing firms ensure comprehensive verifications, preventing revenue losses due to inaccurate measurements and enhancing consumer trust.

“Our engineers will ensure the accuracy of all instruments distributing fuel across the country, in collaboration with technician companies and oil marketing firms,” Nsefu added.
