The Ministry of Health has joined forces with the Ministry of Technology and Science and the Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) to introduce digital solutions aimed at curbing drug pilferage and enhancing healthcare services in Zambia.
Technology and Science Minister, Felix Mutati, stated that the collaboration is focused on implementing an online tracking and monitoring system for pharmaceuticals, spanning from procurement to consumption.
Speaking at a Technical Meeting organized by Verotrace Zambia Limited in Lusaka, Mutati highlighted the potential of digitization to improve efficiency and transparency within the healthcare delivery system.

“Once fully implemented, the Ministry of Health will monitor drugs online, providing real-time visibility of stock levels at each health facility,” Mutati stated.
He said that digital tools would enhance public confidence in the management of pharmaceuticals across the Ministry’s facilities.
Kennedy Lishimpi, Permanent Secretary for Technical Services at the Ministry of Health, underscored the urgency of digitising all healthcare services to promote efficiency.
He noted that the digitization efforts encompassed medical records, human resources and procurement, aiming to streamline operations and better allocate resources.
The initiative reflects Zambia’s commitment to leveraging technology for comprehensive healthcare management and ensuring effective utilization of pharmaceutical resources nationwide.
