Chirundu district reports over 900 students sponsored, with CDF support

The government has reportedly sponsored more than 900 students under its skills development policy, financially supported by the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in Chirundu District.

According to Nakubiana Shabongo, the Council Public Relations Officer, Chirundu Town Council allocated K2,537,877 towards 344 students in 2022 and K7,085,743 towards sponsoring 632 students.

In a statement issued in Chirundu on Monday, Shabongo assured of the government’s commitment to improving the lives of citizens through education policies focused on imparting skills.

She emphasized that the development of skills was crucial for survival and would help beneficiaries establish sustainable sources of income.

“Government has invested a sum of K446,355 towards sponsoring 85 pupils under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) secondary bursary,” Shabongo added.

She highlighted that the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development approved the sponsorship of 38 pupils in 2022, amounting to K118,800, while 47 pupils were sponsored under the 2023 CDF allocation for secondary school bursary.

Shabongo noted that government’s policy of free education aligned with the infrastructure development under the CDF, which has led to the expansion of several schools.

She stated that the government remained committed to ensuring the provision of quality education.

“The local authority encourages others to take advantage of the government’s policies aimed at reaching marginalized children, especially those in rural communities,” Shabongo said.
