President Hakainde Hichilema has assured traditional leaders that the government will provide solar energy to all 10 provinces to enhance the lives of people in rural communities.
The Head of State plans to redirect resources from other sectors and reduce wasteful expenditure to fund this initiative.
Hichilema emphasized that this effort aimed to supply power to rural communities not connected to the national grid.
He shared this vision during a meeting with 52 chiefs in Livingstone on Saturday, following the Bene Mukuni Lwiindi traditional ceremony in Kazungula District.

He cited the Muchila Solar Energy System Pilot Project as a model smart village concept, which the government intends to expand to all provinces.
“I want to thank Chief Muchila for launching the pilot solar energy system. This model smart village provides energy to the clinic, school, and surrounding off-grid communities. This is what the government aims to achieve in off-grid areas,” Hichilema said.
Southern Province Royal Foundation Chairperson, Chief Nalubamba, expressed optimism that the government would tackle challenges arising from climate change.
He commended the government for its efforts in debt restructuring and increasing Foreign Direct Investment.
“We want to encourage the government that we stand with you on the journey to serve the people, and we are committed to fostering unity to achieve development more easily. We request you to remain focused during these challenging times,” Chief Nalubamba stated.
