Chipolopolo drawn against defending champions, Ivory Coast, for 2025 AFCON qualifiers

The Chipolopolo will face African champions Ivory Coast in Group G of the Morocco 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The 2012 AFCON champions would also square off against Chad and Sierra Leone.

This was revealed during the draws conducted in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Thursday afternoon.

Only the top two teams in each group would pqualify for the African football showpiece.

The qualifiers would consist of 12 different groups as 48 teams compete for a place at the 35th edition of the prestigious tournament.

Hosts Morocco have been drawn in Group B together with Lesotho, Gabon, and Central African Republic.

However, since Morocco had already qualified as hosts, only one other team from Group B can book a place in the competition.

Group K would see South Africa face off against Uganda, Congo and South Sudan.

The most successful nation in the history of the competition, Egypt, who have won the trophy seven times, would battle Mauritania, Cape Verde and Botswana in Group C.

The qualifiers would take place in September, October, and November this year.

Africa Cup of Nations, the biggest sporting event in Africa, would be held from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.
