Battle for soul of PF deepens, as fierce legal battle erupts between Sampa and former Secretary-General, Ng’ona

In a dramatic turn of events, a fierce legal battle has erupted between PF faction leader, Miles Sampa, and his former Secretary General, Morgan Ng’ona.

The two are locked in an intense struggle for control of the party, with Ng’ona challenging Sampa’s decision to remove him from his positions and dissolve the central committee.

The drama unfolded when Sampa announced sweeping changes to the party leadership, appointing new officials without allegedly consulting the central committee.

On Monday, Sampa appointed Mulenga Kampamba as Leader of Opposition, Brenda Nyirenda as PF Chief Whip, and Hazel Kapeta as Interim Deputy Secretary General.

Ng’ona refused to comply with Sampa’s instructions to reverse the suspension of nine PF Members of Parliament, citing the party constitution.

This led to a bitter fallout, with Sampa accusing Ng’ona of insubordination and disciplining him by stripping him of his roles.

Ng’ona has now taken the matter to the Lusaka High Court, seeking a declaration that Sampa’s decisions are illegal and null.

He argued that Sampa exceeded his powers and violated the party constitution by making changes without central committee ratification.

The plaintiff also seeks a stay on Sampa’s decisions until the matter is resolved.

Ng’ona accused Sampa of undermining intra-party democracy and infringing on members’ rights.
