An initiative aimed at building financial capacity for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Zambia has been launched by the Development finance associate (DFA).
The initiative is called SME climate change investment readiness boot camp programme.
Chief Climate Officer at the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, Hetiius Tembo, said the boot camp initiative would complement government’s efforts in ensuring that SME’s invest in green economy.
Speaking at the launch on Tuesday, Tembo said government was keen on ensuring that Zambia transitions into green economy so as to enhance natural capital and improve inclusivity.

He said government would soon be finalising the preparations of a climate change bill which would provide for the establishment of the national climate change fund.
“As government we are convinced that this initiative will bring more investment in the green economy. This is what government wants to achieve.
Meanwhile, DFA Senior Partner, Trevor Hambayi, said the boot camp would build the capacity of 25 SME’s.
Hambayi explained that the programme would have a total of 150 SMEs in the next three years.
