The Department of Immigration in Ndola has deported a 45-year-old Congolese businessman, Freddy Chansa, for flagrantly violating immigration laws by repeatedly returning to Zambia unlawfully.
According to Immigration Public Relations Officer, Namati Nshinka, Chansa was deported on Wednesday through Kasumbalesa Border Control under a warrant signed by the Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday, Nshinka revealed that Chansa was first noticed by the department on October 3, 2016, when he was referred to Immigration Headquarters by the Department of National Registration, Passports and Citizenship.

The referral occurred after Chansa’s application for late registration as a Zambian citizen was rejected due to insufficient proof of his claim.
The Zambian Consulate in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) initially rejected his application for a travel document for similar reasons.
Chansa then entered Zambia without a travel document on May 7, 2016, aiming to obtain a Green National Registration Card.
Further investigations revealed that Chansa was born and raised in Congo, and both his parents were also born in Congo.
Consequently, he was deported for the first time on April 28, 2017, via Kasumbalesa Border Control.
Chansa unlawfully returned to Zambia on unknown dates and fraudulently acquired a Green National Registration Card (NRC), a Zambian passport and a Voter’s Registration Card.
He was arrested and prosecuted for providing false information to a public officer when obtaining the NRC.
On February 16, 2022, he was convicted and deported for the second time after paying a court fine.
Chansa was deported for the third time on May 27, 2024, through Sakania Border Control after presenting himself at the Ndola Regional Immigration Office on May 14, 2024, demanding to be cleared as a Zambian.
He was finally deported on Wednesday via Kasumbalesa Border Control.
Meanwhile, the Department of Immigration had apprehended 77 individuals of different nationalities for various immigration offenses nationwide.
There have been 36 convictions, 31 removals of illegal immigrants, and six refusals of entry for failing to meet entry requirements.
