Anti-graft commission arrests church project director for alleged corrupt practices

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has detained and charged the Executive Director of the Brethren in Christ Church Choma Children Development Project (BICC-CCDP) for allegedly engaging in corrupt activities amounting to K35,000.00.

ACC Head Corporate Communications, Timothy Moono, identified the suspect as, Mwaka Chibinga, 43, residing at House number 1 Kachacha in Choma.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Thursday, Moono said Chibinga was charged with two counts of suspected corrupt transactions by private persons, in violation of Section 20 of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012 of the Laws of Zambia.

He said that in count one Chibinga, on dates between September 1, 2021 and September 30, 2021 in Choma, the suspect corruptly receive cash gratification of K24,000 as a reward for helping STS Drilling and Exploration Limited win a contract to drill three boreholes on behalf of BICC-CCDP at a contract sum of K180, 044.

“In count two, it is alleged that between the same period and place, Chibinga did corruptly receive an additional K11,000 cash,” he mentioned.

Moono explained that the cash was a bribe for assisting STS Drilling and Exploration Limited in securing a contract to drill three boreholes on behalf of BICC-CCDP, involving transactions with a private entity.

He added that Chibinga was released on bond and would appear in Court soon.
