Margret Tembo is set to become the first Zambian female boxer to compete at the Paris Olympic Games next month.
Tembo qualified through a universality place allocation by the Olympic Games Tripartite Commission and the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit, based on her outstanding performance in various competitions.
The National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) confirmed her qualification on their verified Facebook page, stating: “Tembo joins Patrick Chinyemba in the Boxing Team heading to Paris and becomes the first female Zambian boxing athlete to qualify for the Olympic Games in Zambian Boxing History.”
Competing in the Women’s (-50 kg) category, Tembo boasts an impressive record as the African Champion (2022) and African Games Bronze Medallist (2023).
She also reached the quarterfinals at both the 2023 Continental Olympic Qualifiers and the 2nd World Qualification Tournament in Bangkok, Thailand.
