Information and Media Minister, Cornelius Mweetwa, has accused Petauke Central lawmaker, Emmanuel Banda, of fabricating his alleged abduction in a futile attempt to tarnish the government’s image.
Mweetwa, the Chief Government Spokesperson, asserted that those complicit in the purported abduction of Banda would face severe legal consequences.
Tuesday’s edition of the Times of Zambia quoted Mweetwa, stating that anyone involved, whether genuinely or politically motivated to cast the government in a negative light, would be held accountable.
He emphasized that President Hakainde Hichilema, the government, and State House had no involvement in the alleged abduction.
Mweetwa expressed disappointment over the fabricated story, describing it as an abominable act intended to discredit the government.
“Let me clarify that as Minister of Information, I see no need to comment on an issue currently under investigation. Once the authorities conclude their investigation, I will share the information with the public,” he said.
Mweetwa warned that all those involved should prepare for the consequences, as the law would soon catch up with them, ending the political charade with no place to hide.
Banda was allegedly abducted late last month and found after two days in Kafue District by a good Samaritan, who contacted his family to retrieve him.
The lawmaker is currently receiving medical attention at Maina Soko Military Hospital in Lusaka for an undisclosed illness as police continue their investigation.
