Gambia thrash Seychelles 5-1 in 2026 Africa World cup qualifier

Seychelles suffered their third consecutive defeat in the 2026 Africa World Cup qualifiers, losing 5-1 to Gambia on Sunday at the Stade Municipal de Berkane.

Gambia took an early lead just 10 minutes into the game when Muhammed Badamosi scored with a header from the center of the box.

Seychelles briefly equalized 14 minutes later with a shot from Ryan Henriette, but their hopes were short-lived.

Musa Barrow put Gambia back in front by converting a penalty in the 52nd minute.

This was quickly followed by a goal from Yankuba Minteh in the 55th minute, who netted a right-footed shot from the center of the box.

Badamosi added his second with another header in the 66th minute, and Adama Sidibeh completed the scoring with a right-footed shot in the 78th minute.

Seychelles have yet to win a game in their three matches played, while this victory marked Gambia’s first win in the qualifiers.

In another match, Cameroon secured a dominant 4-1 victory over Cabo Verde. Michael Ngadeu opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a powerful header.

Vincent Aboubakar extended the lead in the 25th minute with a precise right-footed shot, and despite Jamiro Monteiro pulling one back for Cabo Verde in the 37th minute, Aboubakar restored Cameroon’s two-goal advantage with a penalty just before halftime.

Cameroon continued their dominance in the second half, with Nouhou Tolo sealing the win with a header in the 54th minute.

This win places Cameroon at the top of Group F with seven points, while Cabo Verde is in fourth place with four points.
