The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested and charged Muyunda Nyambe, a Human Resource and Administration Officer at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH), with six counts of corrupt practices.

Nyambe, 38, who served under the Zambia National Blood Transfusion Service (ZNBTS), faced charges, among which are abuse of authority of office, forgery, making a document without authority and uttering a false document.

ACC Head of Corporate Communications, Timothy Moono, detailed the charges, stating, “In count one, Muyunda is alleged to have used his office and information obtained in his role as a Human Resource Management Officer to secure an advantage for Lungowe Nyambe, his sister, in her irregular employment as a data entry clerk at UTH under ZNBTS.”

Moono said: “Counts two and three alleged that Nyambe created false letters with references ‘Staff Unpaid Leave and Appointment: Mr. Reuben Mumbo and Ms. Lungowe Nyambe’ and ‘Staff Appointment and Confirmation: Lungowe Nyambe’ dated November 18, 2020, and June 14, 2021, respectively. These letters were falsely attributed to Gabriel Muyinda.”

He added that in counts four and five, it was alleged that Nyambe knowingly and fraudulently presented these false documents as being authored by Gabriel Muyunda.

Count six alleged that Nyambe, a public officer, executed a letter with the reference “Offer of Appointment to the Civil Service: Yourself” dated May 28, 2021, without lawful authority or excuse, concerning ZNBTS and the UTH Blood Bank.

“Nyambe has been released on bond and will appear in court soon,” Moono stated.
