Harry Kalaba, leader of the Citizens First (CF) party, has expressed concern over Zambia’s worsening poverty levels, noting an increase in the number of people falling into abject poverty.
Kalaba highlighted the growing percentage of the working poor and alleged government’s inaction.
He praised the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) for adding 10 new voter registration centers, urging Zambians to seize the opportunity in the 2026 elections to elect a government that genuinely cares for its people.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday, Kalaba lamented that many Zambians could no longer afford a decent meal.

“We are saddened that a common Zambian has lost his dignified position in society due to hunger and poverty,” the CF leader said.
He claimed that even those with white-collar jobs struggle to meet the monthly food basket cost of K10,700, further burdened by daily 12-16 hour power outages.
Kalaba encouraged citizens to register to vote, saying that their participation was crucial for shaping the country’s future governance.
“Registering to vote is the only sure way for citizens to determine the direction of the country’s governance by choosing credible leaders who will run the country transparently,” he said.
“As Citizens First, we commend the Electoral Commission of Zambia for launching continuous voter registration in an additional ten districts,” he said.
