The United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) has given the police a fourteen-day ultimatum to call Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Gary Nkombo, for interrogation.
According to UKA, Nkombo should be questioned for his statement that Mambilima Constituency Member of Parliament, Jean Chisenga, would not go unpunished for calling President Hakainde Hichilema a liar while addressing the nation in Parliament.
The thirteen UKA political parties alleged that Nkombo’s statement was related to the recent arson attack on Chisenga’s house by unknown individuals.
Patriots for Economic Progress leader, Sean Tembo, issued the demands after touring the gutted house in Lusaka on Wednesday on behalf of the Alliance members.
The Alliance comprises the Patriotic Front, Citizens First, National Democratic Congress, New Heritage Party, Forum for Democracy and Development, New Era Democratic Party, United Liberal Party, Golden Party of Zambia and others.
The Alliance, through Tembo, suspects political foul play behind the burning of the house a few days after the Minister’s statement was publicised.
“There is an old saying that if an old woman disappears from a village and the following morning a hyena spits a white hair, it’s the hyena that has killed the old woman. Gary Nkombo made a specific threat, well quoted in the media, where he said Honourable Chisenga will not go unpunished,” he said.
Tembo stated that Chisenga had allegedly been punished and this should prompt the police to interrogate Nkombo to determine whether this was the punishment he meant.
He threatened that failure to interrogate the minister would result in UKA seeking legal redress or pursuing private criminal prosecutions of the matter.

“We are giving the police an ultimatum of two weeks. If they do not take action and summon him, we are going to take other alternative legal measures, which include citizens’ arrest and private criminal prosecution because we have a suspect,” Tembo said.
The UKA leaders, through the PEP leader, have wondered why the Zambia Police had not issued a statement and secured the possible crime scene up to now.
“Why did it take the Honourable to go and pick up the police? The inertia being exhibited by the police is appalling. Why do the police have a casual approach towards this case? Do they know the suspects?” Tembo questioned.
Earlier, NDC leader Saboi Imboela and Golden Party of Zambia leader, Jackson Silavwe, announced the setting up of a “GO FUND ME” account for citizens in Zambia and abroad to contribute towards the plight of the female parliamentarian.
