Red Arrows are champions-elect of the FAZ MTN Super League after edging ZANACO 1-0 at Lusaka’s Nkholoma Stadium.
The result means Arrows have completed a league and cup double barely a week after winning the ABSA Cup.
The lone goal, which arrived early in the 2nd minute, courtesy of Ackim Mumba was enough for the Airmen to be confirmed as the 2023/24 league champions with four games to spare.
The win takes the Air Force-sponsored outfit to 67 points, making it mathematically impossible for second-placed ZESCO United, who have 56 points, to catch them.
Despite the match featuring only one goal, it was entertaining. Arrows were determined to clinch the title, evidenced by their defensive masterclass. ZANACO tried to impose themselves on the match, but the Arrows’ defense was impregnable.
Congolese defender Malonga Gesimo had an impressive match and was at the heart of most of the effective defensive interventions for the Airmen.
