Central African Republic (CAR) President, Faustin-Archange Touadéra, has called for enhanced bilateral relations, particularly in defense and security cooperation, between Zambia and his country.

Touadéra also advocated the expeditious signing of an agreement on defense and security cooperation between the two nations.

These sentiments were expressed during a meeting where Touadéra received letters of credence from Zambia’s Ambassador to CAR, Paulu Kosita, in the capital, Bangui.

“I wish to express my gratitude to Zambia for deploying troops to CAR as part of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MUNISCA),” Touadéra said.

Additionally, Touadéra stressed the importance of addressing security issues across the African continent.

The President assured the Ambassador of the government’s full support during his tenure.

Ambassador Kosita, who also serves as Zambia’s Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, pledged to diligently work towards strengthening diplomatic ties between Zambia and the Central African Republic.

He reiterated Zambia’s commitment to contributing to peace efforts in Africa, echoing President Hakainde Hichilema’s belief that instability anywhere poses a threat everywhere.

“Zambia remains committed to peace efforts in Africa, as demonstrated by its ongoing troop deployment in CAR under MUNISCA since 2014, among other peacekeeping missions on the continent,” Ambassador Kosita affirmed.

According to a statement issued in Lusaka, Ambassador Kosita was officially accredited to CAR as Ambassador, on a non-residential basis.

Earlier, he presented copies of his letters of credence to Sylvie Baipo Temon, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Central African Republic.
