Haabazoka challenges govt to reverse approved electricity hike if truly it wasn’t consulted

Former president of Economic Association of Zambia (EAZ), Lubinda Haabazoka, has challenged government to reverse the increased electricity tariffs that were approved by the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) if they claim that they were never consulted.

Haabazoka wondered why government had not reversed the decision if truly the duo had made a mistake, as the administration was claiming.

He said in an interview on Friday that firing ERB Board Chairperson, Reynolds Bowa, and the Director-General, Yohana Mukabe, would not correct issues being raised by Zambians.

He alleged that Bowa and Mukabe were being used as a scapegoat in the matter.

“What is happening at ERB is a fufuveve (something that you cannot understand), how can you increase electricity tariffs without the consent of the President,” he said.

Haabazoka noted that firing of duo would not have an impact on the lives of Zambians because their purported wrong decisions had not been reversed.

He warned that if the energy sector was not handled well, the country would start having electricity for only two hours in a day.

Haabazoka said the only solution to Zambia’s electricity challenges was nuclear energy, a project that was abandoned.
