A 24-year-old individual is believed to have died after being attacked by a crocodile on Kafue River in Chiawa District.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Sunday, Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, said the canoe was struck by a hippo.

Hamoonga stated that while the individuals were attempting to swim to safety, Zezai was seized by a crocodile.
“The victims were attacked as they were crossing the Kafue river on May 4, 2024 around 05:30 hours in Chiawa District,” he said.
Additionally, he mentioned that both individuals survived the Hippo encounter, but Zezai was presumably seized by a crocodile as they swam toward safety.
Meanwhile, Geoffrey Chindalo successfully made it to shore despite sustaining injuries from the Hippo attack.
“He was rushed to Kambale Clinic where he was attended to and later discharged. His condition is said to be stable,” Hamoonga said.
He said the search for the Zezai victim was ongoing.
