President Hakainde Hichilema has called for unity among church leaders and all religious groups in Zambia, as he declared to build some facilities in Chinsali using his family resources.
Commemorating the birthday for the first Republican President, Kenneth Kaunda, on Sunday, Hichilema called for unity which he believed would create a country the former Head of State envisioned.
Hichilema, speaking from the Lubwa Mission in Chinsali, put an emphasis on the need to create a united Zambia.
“I am calling on all the church leaders, religious groups to work to unite Zambia, starting with families and communities.
“Traditional leaders and government have a critical role to play to unite the country, but together we can keep a country as KK would want it to be,” he said.
During the Kaunda Centenary Birthday Commemorations, the Head of State also pledged to put some structures in Chinsali using his family resources.

“To honour KK at 100, I declare family resources to build a 1 by 4 classroom block as requested. This will be built by the HH family. We will also build a girls’ boarding facility to be built by the HH family,” Hichilema said.
Senior Chief Nkula of Chinsali expressed concern about illegal mining taking place in Muchinga Province where 80 percent of the land had reportedly been given out on mining concession licences without due consideration for the benefit and welfare of locals.
He said this through his representative, Kingsley Chanda.
Chief Nkula appealed to President Hichilema for an opportunity to have a detailed discussion on the matter with the government.
His Royal Highness called upon national leaders to not only reflect on the life of Kaunda but also strive to emulate his virtues of selflessness, love, and peace.
He said today’s event was significant as it was a reminder of the enduring legacy of the Kaunda family, intertwined with Zambia’s journey to political freedom.
He said the gathering of dignitaries led by President Hakainde Hichilema signified a collective unity of purpose and a shared commitment to the ideals of one Zambia, one nation.
“As we commemorate the Kaunda Centenary, let us not only reflect on their lives but also strive to emulate their virtues of selflessness, love, and peace,” he said.
Speaking at the same event, United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Synod Bishop for Muchinga, Reverend Festus Chulu thanked government for delivering free education which was benefiting many children in the area.
He requested the government to consider funding the construction of a classroom block and dormitory to expand capacity for the senior secondary school.
The first-born son of Kaunda, Colonel Panji Kaunda, thanked President Hichilema for attending the honouring service of his late father.

Meanwhile, Kafue residents have said they will always remember and honour the legacy of the first Republican President, Kenneth Kaunda, for opening many industries in the area.
The residents, through their District Commissioner, Maurice Hikapulwe, appreciated the work the former President did in their area.
Celebrating Kuanda’s birthday on Sunday, Hikapulwe recalled his hard work in making Kafue the second industrial town from Ndola by opening a number of companies.
Hikapulwe cited Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia, Kafue Textiles of Zambia, Bata, Ginnery and the Breweries among other companies which were opened in Kafue.
“As Kafue District, we remember and honour KK for making Kafue the second Industrial Town in Zambia, the NCZ, Kafue Textiles of Zambia, Bata, Ginnery and Breweries are among the industries which KK opened in Kafue,” he said.
Hikapulwe stated that Kaunda would also be remembered as a great man who selflessly contributed to the liberalisation and uniting of the country.
“We all know that Dr Kaunda played a significant role which cannot be over emphasized but should be celebrated in love, peace and unity,” Hikapulwe said.
He added that the celebration of KK Day should not be politicised in any way as it was an opportunity to honour the great son of Zambia.
