Zambia Sugar Plc has been awarded the ABF Sugar Safety Award which was presented to Managing Director, Oswald Magwenzi, in recognition of his safety leadership and the Company’s safety performance during the period under review.
ABF Sugar is a group of businesses that is part of the Associated British Foods Plc, the international ingredients retail group which operates across 21 plants in nine countries, with a workforce of around 38, 000 people.
The award is part of the ABF Sugar Safety Recognition Programme introduced to encourage and recognize excellent safety behaviour and performance of employees, teams, and operations across its businesses worldwide.
Zambia Sugar Plc is scheduled to host the World Safety Day on 28th April, 2024 at Nakambala Estate, with over 300 guests booked to attend.
The annual celebrations are being organised by the Ministry of Labour and Social Securities and supported by partners.
Last November, the Company Managing Director, and Sugar Company were recognised for safety leadership on the continent at the AfriSAFE conference held in Lagos, Nigeria.
This resulted in the selection of Livingstone, Zambia as this year’s venue for the hosting of the 2024 AfriSAFE Congress scheduled for 7-8 November, 2024, the first to occur out of Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Zambia Sugar Plc held its Safety Week from 15th to 19th April, 2024, with interactions among its over 7, 200 employees.
The week-long event was convened under the theme “Safety First, Quality always and Environmental Vigilance.”
Some of the activities that characterised the Nakambala Estate included drama and exhibitions, with employees renewing their commitment to zero harm.
