Court hears bench warrant not executed on Lungu’s ex-political advisor, Kaizer

The Lusaka Magistrates’ Court heard on Wednesday that the bench warrant which was first issued last June, against former president Edgar Lungu’s political advisor, Kaizer Zulu, for absconding court sessions was yet to be executed.

This is a matter in which Zulu is charged with two counts of failing to appear before the nearest immigration officer and failing to surrender a diplomatic passport.

Principal Magistrate Sylvia Munyinya found Zulu with a case to answer in May, last year.

But Zulu’s whereabouts have remained unknown with his sureties, Munir Zulu and Mulenga Fube, both Members of Parliament, at previous meetings promising the court of finding the accused, thus, the extended bench warrant.

When the matter came up on Wednesday for return of bench warrant, prosecutor Brian Siantengo, informed the court that the warrant had not been executed.

“The arresting officer is not present. He is not feeling well. The surety, Mulenga Fube was before court and he has just walked out because the warrant has not been executed” he said.

The matter was adjourned to a later date.
