The University Teaching Hospital (UTH) has noted with regret the posting of former national team player, Rainford Kalaba’s photo on social media with a male individual.
UTH Public Relations Officer, Nzeba Chanda, said from the time of Kalaba’s admission, the health facility had been reminding the public on the need for privacy.
Chanda in a statement issued in Lusaka on Sunday said the public had been advised on confidentiality as prescribed under the UTH-adult patients right Charter.
“It should, therefore, be noted that the publication of this picture breaches the patient’s right,” she said.
Chanda stated that this was not done by the hospital’s Public Relation’s office and the patient did not consent.
“The hospital has since instituted investigations into the matter and the public will be updated,” she said.
Kalaba, aged 38, was involved in a road accident on April, 12, 2024 that occurred around 12:20 hours at Kafue S Corners, near Kafue Quarry and been in admission since that day.
The accident involved a Howo truck horse with registration number AIC 805 and trailer number BAC 9540, driven by Muyunda Isaac, aged 32 years, of Kamwala South.
Kalaba was reportedly in a Mercedes Benz car, which collided with the truck.
The unmarked car was said to have been driven by an unidentified female driver of unknown residence who, police said, died on the spot.
“Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the accident,” Hamoonga stated.
Kalaba had sustained suspected internal injuries and had earlier been promptly transported to UTH for further medical attention.
