Hichilema in Mongu, harps on unity in diversity as Kuomboka ceremonies hold

President Hakainde Hichilema says cultural exchange and collaboration between traditional leaders fosters a cross-pollination of cultures.

President Hichilema, who was amongst thousands of people who attended this year’s Kuomboka ceremony in Mongu District of Westen Province on Saturday, said this also underscored the importance of unity among the people.

On his official Facebook page Hichilema wrote: ” We were privileged today to witness this year’s Kuomboka ceremony in the presence of Their Majesties King Lubosi Imwiko II, the host and Chitimukulu Kanyanta Manga II, the guest of honor, along with other traditional leaders from across the country.”

He promised that his administration would always support such noble initiatives for the mutual benefit of the people and the country

Hichilema noted that in times like these, even though diversity was an undeniable characteristic among human beings, cultural moments, like the Kuomboka, transcends diverseness.

“Uniting us as one large family, proud to be One people, One nation, under One God,” he said.

Hichilema asserted that diversity was not division but components of one large body.

“We, therefore, urge those who promote the contrary to consider 1Corinthians 12:12, which speaks of “One Body but Many Parts,” he said.

On Sunday, the President also took time to join hundreds of Catholic faithful at a worship service at Mongu Parish.

He said it was heartwarming to see the Catholic Church’s efforts to integrate indigenous song and dance into their services, as well as their unwavering commitment to gender balance throughout the process.

“These practices are commendable and worth emulating, not only within the Church but also in other spheres of life, including government,” Hichilema stated.
