Lusaka Magistrate, Trevor Kasanda, has granted the last adjournment in a case in which former Lusaka Province Minister, Bowman Lusambo, is facing three counts of attempting to interfere with witnesses.
Magistrate Kasanda granted the last adjournment on Friday, with the matter slated to come up on April 30, this year, for continued defence.
The court was told by defence lawyer, Melissa Phiri, that she and the accused, were both unwell.
“This is the last I am allowing the adjournment. The matter is adjourned to April 30,2024 for continued defence,” he said.
It is alleged in count one that Lusambo on a date unknown but between February 1, 2022 and April 30, 2022 in Lusaka with intent to obstruct the due course of justice did endeavour to dissuade or prevent Cosmas Kapula Chalusa to give evidence as a witness before a court of law.
Allegations in count two and three are that Lusambo between April 1, 2022 and April 30, 2022 in Lusaka did endeavour to dissuade or prevent Ernest Sumani and Mundia Mataa to give evidence as witnesses before a court of law.
Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes’ Court also warned it would not allow further adjournments on a matter in which former Zambia Air Force commander, Eric Chimese, faces forefeiture of his properties
“Haimbe Legal Practitioners filed a notice of Motion to adjourn on March 2, 2024,but no one from the said firm is before court to move us on the said motion. As stated earlier, there is no one from the DPP and no reason has been advanced for their absence. This is the State’s case and they should be seen to making efforts to prosecute their matter,” said the court.
Judge Pixie Yangailo adjourned the case to May 21, 2024.
