With trial set to commence this Friday, April 11, 2024, if found guilty, Mulume faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
According to a statement issued by Zambia Police Service, it was alleged that on November 20, 2023, at around 19:30 hours, the accused went to look for his girlfriend at her uncle’s place within Zingalume.
Despite noticing her absence, Mulume forced himself inside the house and found the girlfriend’s uncle Gilethi Siyalwindi and the wife seated while their baby, Patrick, was sleeping.
After the couple declined to reveal the whereabouts of his girlfriend, he then lifted up the baby and started hitting him against the ground.
The father tried to rescue the baby but he was over powered by the suspect who produced a knife which he used to stab him on the right arm.
The baby was pronounced dead upon arrival at George Clinic.
