United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children, Najat Maalla, is currently in Zambia for a series of meetings with key stakeholders.
The objective of the visit is to strengthen collaborations on matters pertaining to ending violence against children in Zambia and the Southern Africa region for enhanced implementation of legislation and policies.
Maalla, who arrived on Tuesday, was received by Community Development and Social Services Minister, Doreen Mwamba, and other senior government officials at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka.
Maalla would be in Zambia up to April 14, 2024.
This is according to a programme released to ZANIS by the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services.
She is expected to have first-hand engagement with stakeholders on efforts to end violence against children in Zambia.
“Maalla is further expected to explore areas of collaboration with Government and other stakeholders on strengthening the child protection system in Zambia.
“She is also scheduled to meet with President Hakainde Hichilema at State House, the United Nations representatives and other line government ministries such as the Ministry of Community Development,” according to the programme.
