Kanchibiya Member of Parliament, Sunday Chanda, says the summoning of Catholic Priest, Andrew Mukosa, is totally uncalled for.
“This is totally uncalled for. Let me also point out that the Church is the conscience of the nation. In a nation said to be Christian, is this what you can do to clergy holding different views? ” Chanda questioned.
He further asked in a statement on Sunday saying, “if all priests start to preach in similar manner, will you summon and arrest them all?
Chanda who is seen to have a soft spot for the United Party for National Development (UPND) government noted that the type of zeal exhibited by police had previously brought down many African governments and that “no one seems to learn.”

To the Police, he said this type of excitement was uncalled for and extremely careless.
“Learn from the past including those who have gone before you and become wiser,” he said.
For Chanda, it was no ‘brainer’ that on this matter the court of public opinion would side with the Priest for he reportedly committed no offence at all.
He tasked the police to target real criminals and not the clergy.
Chanda expressed disappointment that 60 years after Independence such headlines were on the menu of media outlets.
“Please do not gag divergent views. To be forewarned is to be forearmed. Those concerned must take judicial notice,” he ended.
Police had summoned Catholic Priest Mukosa for interrogation in Ndola for unknown reasons.
