Minister of Education, Douglas Siakalima, has urged parents not to discriminate against a girl child in accessing education.
He said parents should not only educate boys but also consider girls and avoid giving them away to early marriage.
Siakalima said this in Lusaka on Thursday when the Ministry flagged off 500 digital tablets, LCD projectors and screens worth K4.1 million.

The minister said the gadgets would be distributed to 500 adolescents in 32 districts across the country under the Global Fund initiative.
“If over 2 000 000 children are now in school and more than half are girls, it means there is something wrong,” Siakalima said.
He added that this signified that parents were choosing who take to school.
“If you have three children, two are boys one is a girl, you chose to take two boys and this other child sometimes being forced to marriage,” Siakalima said.
He further stated that under President Hakainde Hichilema’s government, parents have no excuse for not taking their children to school.
“Government has paid for everybody. Our economic policy is focused on investing on school children,” Siakalima said.
