A 42-year-old male from Kabamba resettlement scheme in Masaiti is alleged to have committed suicide after murdering his 32-year-old wife, Barbara Nyoni, and her three-year-old son.
Police said the suspect identified as Bright Shimbile hanged himself from a tree using fiber 50 meters away from their home.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Sunday, Central Province Police Commissioner, Charity Munganga, stated that Nyoni had been missing for two days.

“The incident happened between March 13, 2024 and March 16, 2024 as Barbara was last seen by her neighbours on March 13, 2024 as she was coming from the grinding mill,” Munganga said.
She said the two decomposed bodies were discovered by neighbour after they noticed flies on the door and noticed an awful smell emanating from the house.
“Police officers inspected the bodies and discovered that Barbara had multiple deep cuts on the head while the son’s head was completely chopped off,” she stated.
Police suspected that an axe was used in the act, as it was found at the scene stained with blood.
“Bright is suspected to have committed suicide after murdering the duo. The three year-old was Bright’s step son,” Munganga said.
She said police advised the family to bury the bodies and mark the graves.
In another case, a 32-year-old man of Samfya District in Luapula Province was killed by a Crocodile while fishing on Lake Bangweulu.
His relatives identified him as Kabanshi Mwape of Nkoya village in Chisuku area.
This was contained in a statement issued in Lusaka on Sunday by Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Danny Mwale.
“The victim went fishing alone on Lake Bangweulu using a canoe on March 15, 2024 around 18:00 hours and whilst on the Lake, a crocodile caught hold of him and killed him in the water,” Mwale said.
Mwale added that the deceased’s body was retrieved in two pieces after a search by his relatives and other members of the community.
