Edible oil producers unhappy with govt ban on exportation of soya beans

The Crushers and Edible Oil Refinery Association (CEDORA) has raised concerns over the way government is making decision in the agriculture industry without allegedly engaging stakeholders.

Its Executive Director, Aubrey Chibumba, in an interview with journalists at the weekend said it was unfortunate that government had continued to make decisions without involving key stakeholders.

He was reacting to a letter issued by the Ministry of Agriculture dated March 4, 2024 informing the nation that government had started the suspension of issuance permits for exports of soya beans and soya cake.

“The decision to ban the export of soya beans and soya cake will negatively affect the business environment in the refinery industry,” Chibumba said.

He said it was important for government to ensure that stakeholders were engaged to identify the gaps in the sector to avoid making such decision that would only compromise the sector.

Chibumba noted that the ban would also reduce productivity in the refinery industry this year.
