Ex-President Edgar Lungu’s daughter, Tasila Lungu, has sought leave of the Economic and Financial Crimes Court to file an affidavit against the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) rejecting forfeiture to the State of her farm in Sinda district estimated to be worth K8 million.
The deponent, Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) investigations officer, Emmanuel Khondwe, submitted that Tasila’s known income for the period August 11, 2015 to August 31, 2021 was K867,800.08 while the farm no.F/2278 was valued at K8,540,098.00.
He said the estimated cost for the construction of the structures, fish ponds and other related works at the said property as at November 2022, was K13,950,378.83
But Tasila said the property value was inflated and incorrect.
She submitted that she bought the property at K300,000, and that the allegations by the State were unfounded and not supported by any cogent evidence as she had never been involved in any alleged serious crimes.
“I am an interested party and have demonstrated that the property is not associated with the commission of any offence or criminal activity and as such I should not be denied an opportunity to be heard on the main matter,” she stated.
“Emmanuel Khondwe has also failed to mention that my father was the former President of Zambia and hence the reason for the investigation carried out which I believe are deliberate, intentional and malicious following the change of government after the August 2021 presidential elections,” she said.
Tasila submitted that she had been unwell and, therefore, unable to adquently provide instructions to her lawyers to complete the affidavit in opposition.
