United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) party leader, Charles Chanda, has called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to address the imbalance in campaign conditions.
Chanda highlighted the prevalent abuse of government machinery and resources in the presence of ECZ officials, giving an unfair advantage to the serving government.
The UPPZ leader in a statement issued in Lusaka on Sunday, noted the need to address the imbalance between ruling government and opposition during by-elections.
“Ministers surrender their official vehicles during general elections, however this is different for by-elections” he said.
Chanda emphasized that the same standard should be upheld for by-elections, stressing the need for a level playing field.
He called for stricter laws and penalties to deter such infringements and ensure electoral integrity.
“It is important to uphold transparency and fairness in the electoral process to foster a truly democratic environment,” Chanda said.
