Police in Chelston have arrested a Rocks student apartment driver for allegedly threatening a female student of Lusaka Health Institute with a gun.
Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, identified the suspect as Million Banda, 46.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Thursday, Hamoonga recognised the student as Margret Banda, 26, residing in Silverest.

“Banda reported an incident of threatening violence and assault perpetrated by Million Banda, aged 46, who is employed as a driver at Rocks Student Apartment,” he stated.
Hamoonga explained that the incident occurred on February 20, 2024 at Rocks Student Apartment in Silverest.
“Banda sought to retrieve a gate key from Million Banda so that she could join her friend waiting who was outside,” he added.
He added that the encounter took a violent turn as the suspect began verbally abusing and physically assaulting the student.
“The situation escalated when Million Banda reportedly pointed an unknown firearm at Banda, threatening her safety,” Hamoonga said.
He explained that the student pleaded with the suspect until he eventually lowered the weapon.
“Following the harrowing experience, Banda courageously decided to report the incident to Chelston Police Station,” Hamoonga stated.
After an investigation, Hamoonga said a firearm identified as a Star Fire, serial number DK 744912, Calibre 9mm, silver in color, along with 6 rounds of ammunition, was seized from the suspect’s residence.
“The suspect is currently in police custody and a case docket has been opened,” he added.
Hamoonga urged the public to remain vigilant and report any instances of violence promptly.
