Chief Government Spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa, has called on Zambians in the diaspora to help attract the much-needed foreign direct investment.
Mweetwa said this should be done through portraying Zambia’s image positively to the outside world.
He said this in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia during a dinner hosted by Zambia’s Ambassador to that country, Rose Sakala, for the Zambian delegation that participated in the 37th African Union (AU) Ordinary Summit for Heads of State and Government.
This is according to a statement issued in Lusaka by the First Secretary for Press and Tourism at the Zambian mission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, inutu Mwanza.
Mweetwa who is also Information and Media Minister said Zambians living abroad are Zambian flag carriers who should ensure that the good image of the country was portrayed at all times.
“It is important for those working abroad to look out for available opportunities and best practices to make Zambia better,” the Minister emphasized.
Minister of Education, Douglas Syakailma, who also attended the event called for hard work among Zambians.
“The AU theme for the year 2024 on Education, provides an opportunity for the government to re-look at aspects of education that require more attention to improve the education system,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sakala appreciated the delegation for the work done on Zambia’s successful participation at the summit.
She urged Zambians to feel free to visit the Embassy and inform the Mission every time a citizen was in Ethiopia.
The 37th AU Heads of State and Government Summit was held under the theme: Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building Resilient Education System for Increased Access to Inclusive, Lifelong, Quality, Relevant Learning in Africa.
