Chief Government Spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa, says the Edgar Lungu-led Patriotic Front (PF) wants to use members of the newly formed United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) as doormats to bounce back to power.
Mweetwa alleged that the Alliance belongs to the Lungu led PF and thatvthe former president was the man behind the idea.
During a media briefing in Lusaka on Monday, Mweetwa said it was obvious that the leader for the UKA was Lungu who failed to lead the country during his tenure of office.
He alleged that the formation of such an alliance was because PF can not use its name due to the many atrocities it committed in 2016- 2021, hence rebranding through UKA.
“They can go ahead and register it, we as government do not have any part whatsoever in their alliance, we won’t stand in their way,” Mweetwa advised.
Mweetwa assured that government would not interfere with the registration process of the Alliance as long as it meets the legal requirements of the law.
The Minister of Information and Media added that UKA was a living testimony that the democratic space in the country was expanding contrary to the claims made by the same opposition leaders in the Alliance.
“As we commend the formation, we note that the real thing behind it is that PF has finally rebranded,” he commended.
He urged the members of the Alliance to go ahead and register the Alliance as a club and be ambassadors of goodwill by telling the nation that there was no shrinking democratic space in Zambia.

Mweetwa noted that the PF was the only party representing the Alliance as some individuals do not have representation in Parliament or at wards level.
He called on members of the opposition to stop complaining about the shrinking democratic space and rather engage government on policy issues.
Meanwhile, Mweetwa said that Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) leader, Edith Nawakwi, was constipated with bitterness hence her negative attacks on President Hakainde Hichilema.
He also advised Socialist Party Leader Dr, Fred Mmembe, not to breach the Constitution before he even becomes president.
