Business Executive, Bizwell Mutale, has been dragged to Court by a Lusaka landlord over alleged failure to pay rentals since June, 2019, bringing the total sum to over US$150,000.
Mutale who last month rejoined the ruling UPND party from PF is alleged to have not only neglected to settle the rental arrears but also had locked the premises of the property in question since September, 2021.
Julie Limipic sued Mutale together with his company , MKP South Africa (Zambia) Limited in the Lusaka High Court seeking an order that he pays the outstanding rentals and vacates the premises.
Limipic stated that she was the landlord of Plot No. 39 Mulungushi road, Roma, Lusaka, and on April 29,2019,entered into a tenancy agreement with MKP South Africa.
It was agreed that the company would pay US$3,000 monthly rentals subject to a yearly increment of five percent.
She said that Mutale paid US$9,000 for three months and MKP South Africa took occupancy of the house.
But since June, 2019, he had refused to settle the rentals and in September, 2021, she was informed by the caretaker that Mutale had locked the premises with furniture inside and moved to South Africa.
Limipic said she has had no access to her property since then.
The plaintiff stated that from June 2019 to March, 2022, the defendants accumulated US$99,000.
She said despite the tenancy agreement expiring in March, 2022, the defendant continued to occupy the house till January 2024, thus accumulating US$66,000 debts.
