Police on the Copperbelt say efforts to retrieve the seven trapped miners at Macrolink Mine on Ndola-Mufulira road is under way.
Fire engine personnel are pumping out water from the underground tunnel.
Copperbelt Police Chief, Peacewell Mweemba, said that efforts to pump out the water were being made for the possible retrieval of the miners.
Mweemba confirmed in a statement that nobody had been retrieved.

The preliminary findings by the police indicated that on January 21, 2024 around 23:55 hours Penjani Kaumba 31, of Kamalasha Township Sakania, also a-Signal man reported on duty, shift 3, with other five miners, Zambians and two Chinese nationals who were operating at 235 meters deep.
On January 22, 2024, at around 07:20hours Kaumba (mine accident survivor) noticed water coming from one of the tunnels.
He immediately informed his colleagues to come out from where they were working due to pressure of water which was coming from the upper level.
“The survivor managed using a rope which brought him to the surface land, and he later informed his employers what had transpired underground,” Mweemba stated.
The local police officers rushed to the scene and confirmed the accident.
The trapped had been identified as John Mumba, Savoir Musanshiko, Peter Mulenga,Blessing Selemani and Teddy Chilukutu.
Others are two Chinese nationals, Zhadi Liqiang and Zhang Libin.
