The Resident Doctors Association of Zambia (RDAZ), has advised youths against abusing the local brew called “Kachasu” as a substitute for the Cholera vaccine.
Association President Dr. Mweushi Mphande, noted with concern that there was abuse of the local brew during the Cholera outbreak and warned of health consequences.
Mweushi said this when the Association came to the aid of Chainda Urban Health Center in Lusaka on Monday by donating various items that included, Chlorine, Gloves, Sprayers among others to help in the fight against the outbreak.
He stated that abuse of Kachasu had Health complications such as compromising a person’s immune system and this made such a person prone to diseases.
“This Kachasu beer is not properly brewed, it has a lot of chemicals which attacks body parts such as the Liver and compromises the ummune system of a person taking it,” Mweushi warned.
He stated that the local brew should be avoided at all cost and not used as a substitute for the Cholera vaccine in the country where at least 480 people had died and 12,338 cases reported by health authorities.
“Even during the COVID-19 era, people used to abuse alcohol, cigarettes among other substances as substitutes for the vaccines however this compromised their immune system and most of them are now prone to diseases,” Mweushi stated.
He advised youths to avoid abusing the local brew because it had not been scientifically proven to help in healing any health complications but only worsens the health status of a person drinking it.
