Zambia has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership with China.
Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mulambo Haimbe, said this when he held a bilateral meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Zambia, Du Xiaohui, in Lusaka on Tuesday.
The meeting was aimed at reaffirming the existing bilateral relations between Zambia and China.
During the meeting, Haimbe expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for the support rendered to Zambia’s health sector to combat the outbreak of cholera.
The Minister reiterated that the Zambia upholds the One China Principle and recognizes that the Chinese government was the sole legal government representing the whole of that country.
“The government acknowledges that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory,” he stated.
The Minister recalled that in September 2023, President Hakainde Hichilema and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, announced the elevation of the Zambia-China relations to a Comprehensive Strategic and Cooperative Partnership during his visit to China.

“The Zambian government is actively collaborating with China to implement the consensuses reached by the two Heads of State,” Haimbe said.
He stated that this was with the goal of enhancing the bilateral relations and upholding the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations through concrete actions.
At the same meeting, the Chinese Ambassador to Zambia pledged China’s commitment to continue supporting Zambia’s fight against the outbreak of cholera.
He said this would be done through the provisions of vaccines, clean water facilities and other medical supplies.
