Copperbelt United Party for National Development (UPND) Chairperson, Elisha Matambo, claims hundreds have joined the ruling party during a party mobilisation drive in Mufulira.
Matambo said in Mufulira on Saturday during a meeting that the party in the province had embarked on a party mobilisation drive in which more opposition members and leaders were ‘flocking’ the ruling party, ditching the opposition politics.
“The people who we have received in hundreds are among them from Patriotic Front(PF), ex-miners and others from different opposition parties. Like, President Hakainde Hichilema has always said, our great party UPND has many mansions to accommodate everyone,” he said.
Matambo urged new members to feel welcome by participating in all party activities, adding that it was his expectations that the file and ranks of the party would accommodate new members.

“Our party mobilisation in 2024,will be focused on strengthening existing branches as well as forming new branches. For any political party to be strong,it must have a strong grassroots structures,” he stated.
Matambo further highlighted many achievements in different sectors by the UPND government the past two years.
He talked about the reported achievements in mining, health, education, Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and road network upgrade.
Others he boasted about were improvements in water and sanitation, credit window for those who do not benefit from the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).
Matambo who is Copperbelt Minister, reiterated that since Copperbelt Province was about mining, the major break through both for Mopani Copper Mine (MCM), Konkola Copper Mine (KCM) and 28 Shaft in Luanshya would result in the creation of ‘thousands’ of Jobs in 2024.
“We also expect our constructors and suppliers to go back into business. This is more reason President Hichilema and his team have come up with a deliberate move that all the mining contracts below K25 million must be reserved for Zambian,” he stated.
