Former Patriotic Front (PF) Kabushi Member of Parliament, Bowman Lusambo, has been granted an order by the Lusaka High Court to have a paternity test conducted on the four children alleged to have been fathered by him with Mercy Cowham to ascertain if he was their biological father.
In 2021, Cowham in a video accused Lusambo of being the father of the children but had neglected supporting them.
She alleged that the duo had an on and off sexual relationship since 2014, which resulted into the birth of the four children. At the time, Cowham was pregnant for the fourth child.
Lusambo sued Cowham in the Lusaka High Court demanding damages for libel as well as exemplary damages.
He also damanded for Cowham to retract and render an apology for the false accusation made against him, alleging that he was the father of her children as he had never had sex with her.
Lusambo filed an application for a paternity test to prove the truth that he was indeed not their father.
Judge Mwila Kombe granted the order to uncover the truth as Lusambo contended that the allegations by the defendant alleging that he was the father of her children were incorrect and untrue.
“I am in the premises, satisfied that it is in the best interest of the children that the paternity test be conducted so as to ascertain their affiliation and family status. The plaintiff has therefore made out a case warranting the court to consider the exercise of its discretion to grant the order sought.
“For the reasons I have highlighted, in the exercise of my discretion, I make an order for a paternity test and taking of blood samples. For the avoidance of any doubt, I direct that the blood samples be taken from the defendant’s four children,” Justice Kombe ordered.
The four children were born between 2015 and 2021.
