Zambia is this year set to host the second edition of the Travel, Hospitality and Tourism Education Summit with expected participation of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).
This was announced by Tourism Minister, Rodney Sikumba, at the Zambia Institute for Tourism and Hospitality Studies (ZITHS) stakeholder media engagement on Friday.
The engagement was part of activities marked to dispatch four students to the United States of America (USA) for 12 months as part of an exchange programme on Friday.

Sikumba explained that the event was a key strategic element of transforming tourism into a key economic sector.
“It is a platform to build a best practice model and an opportunity to open our doors to educators, employers, policy makers and other stakeholders to dialogue among each other on managing tourism education,” he said.
Sikumba also emphasised that the future of the tourism sector was dependent on the size and quality of the human capital.
He pointed out that the importance of human capital in the travel, tourism and hospitality industry cannot be overemphasised.
“As such, we are putting a premier on the human contribution in our industry development agenda. Today [Friday] is a milestone in our efforts to enhance human development in the travel, tourism and hospitality industry as we partner with the USA to improve service delivery in the sector.
“I commend ZITHS for pursuing this opportunity and may I simply say, hearty congratulations to the successful candidates who now add to our team members across the globe,” he said.
