Zambia records 203 new cholera cases, Lusaka leads with 198

Zambia has recorded 203 new cholera cases, with 11 Brought-in- Dead (BID) as at December 31, Ministry of Health official reveals.

In the past 24 hours, according to Health Minister, Syvia Masebo, Lusaka continued to record the highest with 198 new cases.

Masebo explained that 11 death registered were BID, while four were facility deaths.

She pointed out that in the past 24 hours, 86 were discharged and 292 patients are in admissions.

Addressing journalists in Lusaka on Sunday, the minister said in view of the escalating numbers of cholera cases, it had engaged the Disaster Management Mitigation Unit and other ministries to help tackle the outbreak

“In the past 24 hours, Lusaka province continues to record the highest, 198 news cases are from Lusaka province. 76 are discharges with 284 in admission,” she stated.

Masebo expressed satisfaction with the measures her Ministry was putting in place to combat various disease outbreaks such as cholera, measles, anthrax, rabies and scabies in the country.

Additionally, Masebo said the outbreak was a set back in the delivery of health services as it could lead to shortage of drugs.

The minister continued to advise members of the public seek medical help as soon as they experience symptoms of the disease.
