Mopani Copper Mines PLC has announced the dissolution of the Nkana Executive Committee with immediate effect.

The executive committee was headed by Mopani Tax Manager, Chikusi Banda, according to a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday.

The company had since appointed an interim executive committee to oversee the activities of the club until further notice.

The statement further indicated that the executive committee would now be headed by immediate past Nkana Football Club president Joseph Silwamba.

He previously led the Club to its 13th league title in the 2020 transition MTN super League and also won Nkana’s 18th Charity Shield Cup at the start of the 2020/2021 Soccer Season.

Silwamba also guided Nkana to the Group Stage of the CAF Confederation Cup during the
2020/2021 season, despite challenging circumstances.

Silwamba had in the past also headed Diggers Rugby Cub on three occasions (2004, 2005 and 2008), served as Vice President of the Zambia Rugby Union (2012) and National Sports Council Board
member (2013-2017).

The Nkana management further stated that other members of the interim executive committee included Joseph Khunga, David Phiri, Mulenga Chisunka, Lillian Musenge, and Prince Sinkala.

Furthermore, the company dissolved the sub-committees.

“Nkana Football Club has dissolved all existing Sub-Committees which include Match Organising Committee(MOC) and Nkana Security Wing,” read the statement in part.

Nkana currently sit second from the bottom with a paltry 13 points just three above bottom placed Trident FC with 16 matches played in the season 2023/2024 season in FAZ Super League.
