Lawyers for the Edgar Lungu-led Patriotic Front (PF) have given the acting Registrar of Societies, Maria Mulenga, 48 hours to reverse the changes that have recently been made to the register of party Office Bearers.
The ultimatum had also been extended to Home Affairs and Internal Security, Permanent Secretary, Dickson Matembo.
In the letter dated November, 30, 2023, Makebi Zulu Advocates have warned that the two officials would face contempt of court charges as the changes made were illegal referencing the matters before the Lusaka High Court.
“Former Chief Registrar of Societies, Thandiwe Phiri-Mhende submitted to the Lusaka High Court that the register of the Patriotic Front has not been changed following the illegal and sham conference held by a expelled Matero Miles Sampa,” reads part of the letter.
The lawyers have been instructed to commence proceedings against Mulenga, Matembo and the Attorney-General for appropriate remedies including malfeasance in public office should they not reverse their act within 48 hours of the notice.
“Reference is made to the above captioned matter and to your letter of the 30th instant wherein you purported to change the names of the office bearers fcr the Patrioic Front party on the 29th, instant,” they referenced.

The Lungu-led PF legal team said the two knowingly misused or abused their power or authority and willingly acted to cause harm to an individual or group, in bad faith and that this amounted to malfeasance in public office.
They called on Mulenga to follow the Constitution or of the PF party and restrain herself from illegally altering the names of the Office Bearers’ register.
“This is especially that it was common knowledge that the persons you registered on the November, 29, 2023 as office bearers did not legitimately attain the positions they purport to hold as there was no legitimate conference held for such appointments in line with the dictates of the Party constitution,” the legal team said.
