Nigeria’s Water Resources officials visit Zambia to seek knowledge on urban water reforms

Officials from Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Water Resources are in Zambia to learn best practices on strengthening urban water utilities’ operations.

The delegation which is being hosted by water sector regulator, National Water Supply and Sanitation Council (NWASCO), are in the country for five days.

NWASCO Communications and Public Relations Manager, Mpunga Simukwai, said the team came to appreciate Zambia’s experiences in water reform.

“The Ministry has undertaken the learning visit to appreciate NWASCO’s experience in water reforms, policy and legal frameworks regulation, benchmarking, among others,” Simukwai said.

Simukwai added that the regulator was committed to knowledge sharing in a bid to enhance regulation of water supply and sanitation provision regionally and globally.

She said the council had previously hosted similar delegations with the most recent one being a team from neighbouring Tanzania.

“NWASCO has hosted similar delegations from the continent, with the most recent being the Tanzanian delegation from Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) in October, 2023,” Simukwai said.

The nine member delegation is led by Assistant Director, Emeka Kenneth Ogbonna.
