Patriotic Front (PF) Bangweulu Member of Parliament, Anthony Kasandwe, has said that the decision by the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) government to dialogue with the Catholic Bishops was long overdue.
Government had announced that it would engage the Catholic Bishops over the concerns which they raised in the pastoral letter recently.
Kasandwe told Zambia Monitor that dialogue with the Catholic Bishops was the right decision as it would also give them an insight on other issues which could not have been raised in the pastoral letter.
He called on government to hasten the process so that the issues which were raised can be dealt with expeditiously and the country could move on to discussing other developmental issues.
“That is the approach they should take, not the way they initially responded through the UPND cadres and officials who started casting aspersions on the Bishops,” Kasandwe noted.
He said the Catholic Bishops could have not said everything they wanted initially and dialoguing with them would give them a chance to understand why the country was in the current situation.
The Bangweulu Constituency lawmaker stated that dialogue was the best way to resolving any differences like it had been done in the past when the country experienced some political tension.
“It’s not all the concerns which were highlighted in the pastoral letter by the Bishops concerning the way the UPND is governing in this country,” Kasandwe said.
