President Hakainde Hichilema is expected to undertake a three day visit to Saudi Arabia to attend the 1st Saudi-Africa Summit, authorities have said.

Hichilema would travel to Saudi Arabia from November, 9 to November 11, 2023 to attend the summit at the invitation of King Salman Bin Abdulaziz AL Saud, according to Stanely Kakubo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Kakubo announced the President’s visit to Saudi Arabia in a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday evening.

He said the inaugural summit would be convened under the theme: “A Promising Partnership” and would seek to strengthen the relations between Africa and Saudi Arabia.

“Discussions at the summit will revolve around critical topics such as trade and investment, food security, energy, global peace and security, migration, United Nations reform, financing capital, and climate change, among others,” Kakubo said.

He said Hichilema was scheduled to address the summit on key thematic areas and would be preceded by a meeting of Foreign Ministers.

Kakubo said additionally, on the margins of the summit, Hichilema was expected to hold bilateral talks with Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia.

He said this was to enhance cooperation and strengthen ties between the two countries.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia remains a strategic bilateral partner for Zambia and this summit provides a pivotal platform for reinforcing existing relations,” Kakubo said.
