President Hakainde Hichilema has invited Swedish companies to consider investing in the various sector of Zambia’s economy.
Hichilema said such companies should not only be extracting the country’s resource endowment, but also processing them locally and collaborating with the Zambian private sector to add value.
The Head of State said this in Lusaka on Wednesday when he hosted a delegation comprising 14 different Swedish companies at the State House.
The 14 companies were led by Mikael Lindvall, the Swedish Deputy Director General of Foreign Affairs, Africa Department, as part of the Swedish Ministerial Business Delegation, according to a post on Hichilema’s Facebook handle.
“During our meeting, we celebrated the long-standing relations between our two countries and expressed our gratitude to Lindvall for organizing such a substantial business delegation,” he said.
Hichilema said the visit underscored the deepening connections between the two countries and their peoples.
“We also expressed our appreciation to Sweden for its support in the debt restructuring talks, and urged them to continue supporting us as we work towards achieving our economic transformation agenda,” he said.
Hichilema added that the decision of Swedish companies to invest in Zambia would contribute to accelerating the economic growth which was government’s main focus.
Given Sweden’s reputation for excellent technology and solutions, the Head of State encouraged the companies to explore various sectors of the Zambian economy.
He requested them to provide government with information about their past endeavours worldwide to assess the suitability of their models for Zambia.
